We can manage pet arthritis with medication, holistic therapy, joint supplements and more.
As your loyal companion approaches their senior years, arthritis is one of the conditions that they are vulnerable to be diagnosed with. There is no cure for arthritis but, with the help of our veterinary team, it can be properly managed. We can maximize your pet’s comfort and minimize the negative effects that the condition can have on their quality of life. Arthritis gets progressively worse over time, and so early diagnosis is key. Please feel free to call our team with any of your questions about arthritis and we will do our best to address your concerns.
This chronic and long-term condition causes inflammation of the joints that can affect your pet’s knees, shoulders, hips and elbows. These joints are protected by a layer of cushion called cartilage. It allows the adjoining bones to move smoothly. When there is change or damage to the cartilage, the bones within the joint rub together, resulting in stiffness and discomfort.
There can be more than one contributing factor. Triggers or causes of arthritis can be anything from a history of injury or surgery, to obesity or ageing. Some diseases like diabetes can also contribute to and put your pet at a higher risk of developing arthritis.
You may notice any of the following symptoms in your furry family member: limping, lameness, licking, difficulty jumping/standing and disinterest in walks. As it worsens with time, symptoms become more obvious. Symptoms are painful and in the early stages, they can be hard to detect. They unfortunately often go untreated until the disease has progressed into its later stages.
Talk to your veterinary team! Your veterinarian will tailor your pet’s specific needs with treatments ranging from supplements to medication or other available therapies.
